When using a glass thermometer, also known as a traditional or mercury-free thermometer, it's important to follow these key points of instruction:

1. Shake the thermometer with a slap motion while repeating its use.
2. Shake it 8-10 times, allowing the solid line to move down slightly after each shake.
3. Rotate the thermometer 3-5 degrees to get a clear view of the solid line.

During winter, all the liquid will be in the bulb, indicating room temperature. The thermometer can be used without shaking for the initial use, but if needed, shake it before each use.

The thermometer is designed with a stop feature in the tube to lock the data. It may rise, but won't go down automatically unless shaken (tip down). By rotating the thermometer slightly, you can easily read your temperature.

Avoid placing the thermometer in hot water as it may exceed its temperature range and break. Do not put it in the refrigerator or cold water to reset it; vigorous shaking is the only way to move the liquid down.
